I am actively looking for people in the 2026 ELLIS call, with the intention to apply for funding through the ELLIS Institute Finland. Both post-doc and PhD positions are of interest. I am particularly interested in supervising work on encoders and embeddings, but this is of course not an exclusive choice.

Encoders and embeddings

Research focusing on encoders and embedding models — in particular their properties and controllability. Topics of interest include:

• Theoretical properties of embedding spaces
• Training embedding models that adapt across tasks
• Promptable embedding models
• Embedding mapping and inversion
• Aspect-based embeddings
• Applications of the above to large-scale corpus work

DH and Computational History

• Tracing meaning in large multilingual corpora, both modern and historical
• Identifying, on the level of meaning, even distant re-use of statements and engagement between ideas
